Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
This site is the personal portfolio of Walt Viviers, a fine artist and photographer based in Pretoria, South Africa. This page explains, in plain language, what information is collected when you visit, who processes it, and the choices you have.
The short version
waltviviers.com is a static website. I don't run my own accounts, logins, or databases of visitors. A handful of third-party services help the site run and help me understand which work resonates — some of them collect limited data through your browser. The analytics and marketing tools load only if you accept: a cookie banner asks on your first visit, and you can change your mind any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer. They never load on the app pages (anything under /apps/). The Instagram feed appears only on the home page.
Who is responsible
Walt Viviers is the responsible party (data controller) for this site.

What is collected, and by whom
The site uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy, linked below. I don't sell any data, and I don't combine it into visitor profiles myself.
All pages except the app pages, and only after you accept. Loads Google Tag Manager (which can in turn load Google Analytics) to count visits and see which pages and links are popular. This may set cookies and record a truncated approximation of your location and device.
All pages except the app pages, and only after you accept. An advertising and measurement pixel from Meta. It sets cookies and shares page-view events with Meta to measure interest and reach relevant audiences. It does not load unless you accept, and never on the app pages.
All pages except the app pages, and only after you accept. An advertising and measurement tag from LinkedIn. It sets cookies and shares page-view events with LinkedIn so I can see aggregated, anonymised professional demographics of visitors (such as industry or job function) and measure LinkedIn campaigns. LinkedIn does not share your identity with me. It does not load unless you accept, and never on the app pages.
Home page only. Displays my latest public Instagram posts. Your browser requests the feed from Behold; standard technical request data (such as your IP address) is involved, as with any web request.
Only when you submit an enquiry form. The name, email and message you enter are sent through Formspree, which forwards them to me by email so I can reply. Nothing is submitted unless you choose to send it.
Every page loads the site's typefaces from Google's font service, which means your browser makes a request to Google (exposing your IP address as part of that request). No cookies are set for this.
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs and provides basic, privacy-friendly performance metrics (Speed Insights) to help pages load quickly.
Cookies
The site itself uses your browser's local storage for small conveniences — your light/dark theme choice, whether you've dismissed the site notice, and your cookie choice (accept or reject). These stay in your browser and are never sent anywhere. The analytics and marketing tools above set their own cookies only if you accept — nothing is set before you choose. You can withdraw or change consent at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer, which clears your choice and lets you decide again.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — under South Africa's POPIA, the EU/UK GDPR, or similar laws — you may have the right to ask what data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to its processing.
- For anything you sent me directly (an enquiry), email me and I'll action it.
- For data held by the third parties above, you can also exercise your rights with them directly using the links provided.
- You can accept or reject the analytics and marketing cookies from the banner, change that choice any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer, and block or delete cookies in your browser settings; most browsers also offer a "Do Not Track" or tracking-prevention option.
Children
This is a portfolio site not directed at children, and it does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If the tools the site uses change, I'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
